TUTORINGÂ SERVICES
What We Provide

ORTON-GILLINGHAM TUTORING
OG instruction is an integrated approach to teaching reading, spelling, and handwriting. Language skills are presented and reinforced using a structured and systematic sequence. Decoding skills and strategies are directly taught. I develop engaging multisensory lessons tailored to each student in order for them to practice decoding and encoding multisyllable words. While I account for their current phonological awareness, I also expose them to grade level vocabulary. Students receiving OG support will increase their phonological awareness and reading fluency. OG support also often increases student success in other subjects such as solving word problems in math or writing more linguistically complex sentences in written assignments.
READING COMPREHENSIONÂ TUTORING
Students practice annotating text to extract and highlight important information; using graphic organizers to simplify content; and visualizing content through illustrations.
Strategies include:
expository and narrative text structures
summarizing and paraphrasing
cause and effect relationships
figurative language
predicting and making inferences
direct teaching of vocabulary

WRITTEN EXPRESSION TUTORING
Struggling writers fall into two categories. There are those who write so little that they have not addressed the question. Resistant writers can struggle with dysgraphia, spelling (dyslexia), or organization of writing. On the other hand, there are those who write too much but fail to answer the question. These writers usually are struggling with comprehension as well as the organization of writing. For both kinds of students, it is key to start at the sentence level and build one's way up to paragraphs and longer compositions. Through the use of graphic organizers, brainstorming tools, art, and outlines, students will increase and/or improve their written expression.
