ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Rachel Whilby, M. Ed.
Rachel is a seasoned educator and school administrator.
Rachel has worked with students ages 4 through post-secondary to support their academic progress over the course of more than 15 years. During her tenure as a fifth grade teacher and team leader at The Swift School, an independent school for students with language-based learning differences in Roswell, GA, Rachel earned her Classroom Educator certification from the Academy of Orton-Gillingham in 2018. Previously, she served on the faculty of The Windward School in White Plains and New York, NY for six years in multiple roles including the Coordinator of Diversity and Community Outreach, Research Associate, and Middle School classroom teacher. Windward is a nationally recognized independent school for students with language-based learning differences. In her time at Windward, Rachel received significant training in multi-sensory direct instruction methodologies. Additionally, she has presented at the annual conferences of the International Dyslexia Association, Everyone Reading, and the National Association of Independent Schools on educating students with dyslexia and other learning differences.
Born and raised in Englewood, NJ, Rachel now resides in Georgia. She attended Emory University where she double majored in Educational Studies and Sociology. In addition, she holds advance degrees in Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation and Sociology and Education from Boston College Lynch School of Education and Columbia University Teachers College, respectively. Rachel is a past fellow of Education Pioneers with the New York City Department of Education Office of Assessment where she evaluated the efficacy of the SHSAT School Day program for NYC youth.
Believing learning is a continuous process for youth and adults alike, Rachel has participated in numerous professional development courses and fellowships. Most notably, Rachel is trained in utilizing Teaching Basic Writing Skills expository writing program (Hochman); Framing your Thoughts writing program (Project Read); Preventing Academic Failure multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham based reading and spelling program (Bertin and Perlman); is classroom certified by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators; Clear Choice Test Prep for ACT and SAT test prep; and Woodin Math (Woodin).
